Arsenal reduced the points difference with Liverpool to just seven points with an excellent 2-0 defeat of Manchester United at the Emirates stadium.

Jurrien Timber and William Saliba headed in corners to earn Mikel Arteta's side a third consecutive win.

The game that saw United's manager Ruben Amorim got his first defeat in the Premier League had everything within two halves. United defended well in the first half, but the second stanza belonged to Arsenal, thanks to their set-piece tendency.

Timber gave the lead when he flicked his first goal for Arsenal from a Declan Rice corner. Saliba quickly added to the lead when a Bukayo Saka delivery from the right found Thomas Partey, who headed it back, enabling Saliba to net off his back.
That was the number seven for Arsenal in terms of set pieces this season and thus becomes the highest in the Premier League so far.

Arsenal could easily have had a couple more as an arsenal of dangerous deliveries (contrived havoc in United's box); however, nothing prevented David Raya from keeping all the dangers at bay. The arrows kept flying in from the artillery fire made by the Gunners' keeper who made key saves, including a stupendous one-handed stop from Matthijs de Ligt's header.

While Arsenal grabbed the thread of seven points from Liverpool, the struggles of United continued, falling further to 11th overall. With Chelsea cementing their place above Arsenal on goal difference following a 5-1 win over Southampton, the Gunners will now seek to continue their good run as the title race intensifies.
