Liverpool's defense remained impregnable in the Champions League this season after Mohamed Salah scored his 50th goal in the tournament's 63rd minute with a penalty, which sealed the win for the Egypt forward in Spain and kept Liverpool at the top of the 36-team league.

Sixth win was hardly a reason for Merseyside coach Arne Slot to celebrate his players in a match that featured goalkeeper Alisson gaving away gallons to keep Girona at bay.

"You ask me about all six games, I am really happy with all the results, I am really pleased with five out of six but 100 percent not happy with tonight's performance," he said.

Salah has a total of 16 goals so far from 22 matches in all competitions this season.

Girona, who are currently in 30th place, have won only once out of their six matches.

As far as I am concerned, they deserve so much more in their Champions League campaign than the three points they have earned thus far. But we have an incredible goalkeeper," said Slot, under whose team the Premier League is also leading.

Liverpool faces Lille at home and PSV Eindhoven away in January in their remaining two matches.

No other players have scored for Liverpool in this season's Champions League except for U.S. international Christian Pulisic, who scored one of the three goals as Milan lost to Liverpool by a goal.
