A dramatic contest at St James' Park held Liverpool to a 3-3 draw against Newcastle as Fabian Schar denied them all three points with a last-minute equalizer.

Heroics from Salah turned out later to be almost meaningless as he scored once again late in the match to complete the comeback after Liverpool had taken a lead twice and was brought back by the hosts. To add to Nigerian loanee Kelleher's woes, he failed to stop a few Schar last-minute equalizers.

Newcastle had the edge in the first half, as fitness doubt Alexander Isak struck a strong drive past Kelleher to open the scoring.

Liverpool, though keeping a quiet appearance about them during FIH first segment, could quickly establish themselves after the break. Curtis Jones then setup a goal from the slick pass of Salah as Curtis and Cody Gakpo missed other chances, so the score remained equal at that point.

Newcastle bounced back into the game with an Anthony Gordon goal assisted by Isak but had one goal disallowed for offside for the Swedish international. Liverpool kept in the game by scoring their 15th goal of the season thanks to another superb display by Salah, with a fantastic finish from a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross to give them their first lead of the match.

Salah's second goal looked to seal a vital victory for Liverpool, but then, with the 90th minute ticking away, Gordon's free-kick floated over Kelleher's head, and Schar was on hand at the far post to notch up a sensational equalizer, with both sides therefore forced to share a point and leaving the title race open wide.
