The team is buoyed by recent victories and started brightly. Milan's Tijjani Reijnders tested Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar early on with a free-kick, while at the other end Mike Maignan comfortably dealt with efforts from Paulo Dybala and Mats Hummels. Roma came closest to breaking the deadlock in the opening minutes as Artem Dovbyk's low shot hit the post after being set up by Dybala and Alexis Saelemaekers.

Milan exploited a swift counter-attack in the 16-minute mark as Youssouf Fofana combined well with Álvaro Morata to play in Reijnders, who opened the scoring with a clinical first-time finish. But Roma responded in fashion in the middle of the first half. Artem Dovbyk's smart flick found Niccolò Pisilli, who laid it on a plate for Dybala to lash an exceptional volley past Maignan. It was Roma's first away league goal inside 25 minutes since October 2023.

Milan manager Paulo Fonseca was sent off before halftime for two bookable offenses, leaving the Rossoneri without their coach for the second half. That did not, however, prevent Milan from attacking in the second half, with Fofana, Samuel Chukwueze, and Ismaël Bennacer being denied by strong saves from Svilar. Roma, under Claudio Ranieri, came into the game, carving out chances themselves, but neither side could find the winner.

Late drama saw Stephan El Shaarawy's long-range strike almost snatch victory for Roma, only for Maignan to make a stunning save to deny his former teammate. The draw means Milan remain unbeaten at home in the final two months of 2024 and extend their streak of home dominance over Roma, which dates back to 2017.

The result took Roma's unbeaten streak in the league to three matches, but extended their winless run away from home to 12 matches. They rise to just inside the top half of the table, while Milan remain outside the European places despite this resilience.
